Rush Stuff

Rambler has been discussing the Broom/Rush masque from The Gentleman Usher over at Quake-speare Shorterly. His posts here, here and here are must reading, in my opinion.  Note that our discussion of Medice’s habit of chewing on rushes aligns Medice with the Fungus/rush side of the broom v. rush debate.

Rushes were commonly spread on the stage in Elizabethan theaters. This clip from Henry V with Mark Rylance has rushes strewn on the stage according to that old practice.   And what a great excuse to link to some of Mr. Rylance’s work!
